VASCULAR MALFORMATION TREATMENT
Vascular malformations are localized collections of abnormally formed blood vessels within the brain or spinal cord that are present from birth. They pose risk for hemorrhage, seizure and stroke and often affect people during early adulthood. Treatment of vascular malformations involves a multifaceted approach that includes embolization, radiation and surgical removal. Interventional Neuroradiologists perform embolization procedures that aim to block the feeding vessels and reduce or eliminate flow to the malformation. Additional treatment with radiation or surgical removal may then be pursued to effect a cure.
