Radiofrequency Ablation and Cryotherapy
One way that interventional oncologists treat cancer is freezing or heating in order to kill the tumor. Using advanced image guided technology interventional oncologists are able to place small probes into tumors which then heat (in the form of radiofrequency waves) or freeze the tumor. In comparison to open surgical resection these treatments are less invasive, and often have a shorter recovery time, with a majority of patients going home the same day of the procedure.
